The swine flue – A (H1N1)

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate… that’s the big question right now. But finally I have decided what to do.

Everybody in Sweden (over the age of 3) will get the opportunity to get vaccinated against the swine flue, Norway does the same thing, but Denmark will only vaccinate people that are old, weak or sick (they who are in the “risk zone”). The vaccine will be delivered soon and the plan is to start the mass vaccination in October.

It’s been a big debate however this is necessary or not.

They against the mass vaccination argue:

-   This flue is no more dangerous than any other flue

-   The vaccination is not thoroughly tested. What does it do to the young, old, weak and pregnant?

-   The flue might mutate and in that case this vaccination is worthless.

-   This is just a way for the medical companies to earn money.

They in support of the mass vaccination argue:

-   Old/weak/sick people are in danger of dying in this flue

-   It’s very contagious so many will get sick, and won’t go to work/school.

-   The pressure on the medical system will be great… and of many of the medical personal also are sick this will create a big problem in the society in large.

-    If the population will vaccinate it will stop the flue from spreading and therefore prevent to infect the old and weak/sick. In that case it will save lives.

-    Test has been done and no dangerous effects have been seen.

-    This flue shows no sign of mutate.

Personally I have been thinking of this for some time and have now decided to say Yes to be vaccinated. Why? The one reason that made me decide was:

-    If I, by vaccinate, can help stop this flue from spreading why shouldn’t I? I have people at home that I love, and Max is under 3 years and will not be vaccinated. I don’t want them to become sick, even if it’s “only” an ordinary flue.

Why shouldn’t you vaccinate?
